HAZARDOUS Materials (Definition from MIL-STD-129P)

Hazardous materials. An item of supply consisting of materiel that because of its quantity, concentration, or physical, chemical, or infectious characteristics, may either cause or significantly contribute to an increase in mortality or an increase in serious, irreversible, or incapacitating reversible illness; or pose a substantial present or potential hazard to human health or the environment when improperly treated, stored, transported, disposed of, or otherwise managed. Materials and products identified as Hazardous Materials for packaging and shipping are handled by experienced personnel to ensure all packaging and containers comply with all applicable Federal, State and Local codes. Mil-Std-129P is also used to ensure the materials being shipped will comply with military regulations. The packages, containers and pallets are clearly marked with the appropriate labels and warning tags specified for compliance.
